The Diamond Princess is a British registered cruise ship owned by Princess Cruises. It was first operational in March 2004. Lockdown

After two people were diagnosed with Covid-19, the ship Diamond Princess has been placed under quarantine. Both passengers were already suffering from pre-existing health conditions, and they were admitted to hospital the following day. The quarantine was lifted and passengers were allowed to continue participating in ship activities, such as dances and quizzes. The virus has not yet spread to other passengers on the ship.


To respond to the incident the Japanese government sent officials from public health into the Diamond Princess ship, wearing protective suits. According to the Japanese government, the virus was brought aboard on January 20. Cruise line investigating possible connections to the Japanese government. The man from Hong Kong boarded the ship in Japan, stayed on board for five more days, before returning home. The Hong Kong man was diagnosed with the virus on Feb. 1 and will be quarantined for 14 days.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Health's report, there have been 169 new Coronavirus cases onboard the Diamond Princess. The Japanese government is cooperating with the cruise line to ensure that no one gets the disease. Princess Cruises has also said that Canada and Australia plan to repatriate those who are affected.

An assessment of Diamond Princess' medical resources has been made in response to the outbreak. A multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, health care experts and specialists was assembled to assist the ship's passengers and crew.
